Excerpts from a Cat’s Daily Diary:
Day 683 of my captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am. The audacity! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.
Day 684 of my captivity: Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs.I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released –and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded! The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe……. for now….

A friend from church had a link to this quiz on her blog, apparently I am a Canna. It says: “You stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets in the way of what other people think. You are proud of yourself and your accomplishments and you enjoy letting people know that.” I’m not sure how accurate that is but…the flower is pretty.

Things that go bump in the night…
March 21, 2008
I was up late tonight working on a scrapbooking project when I hear a thud from down the hall and then “ouch”. So I go down the hall to investigate. Turns out Sam had fallen out of bed in her sleep …onto Lauren’s legs. (Lauren’s bed is a trundle that we keep partially under Sam’s bed at a right angle so that we have more floor space) It obviously wasn’t too bothersome because she didn’t even fully wake up.
Golden Birthday
March 15, 2008
As we were tucking Erica in for bed tonight she was asking when Joshua’s golden birthday would be. We explained that your golden birthday is the number of years of the day you were born so that would mean that in 8 years it will be Joshua’s golden birthday because he was born on the 9th. She proceeded to explain that she thought that maybe on your golden birthday in Heaven God takes you up on his throne with him and you get to be King or Queen for the day and wear a paper crown like you get at Toys R Us. That kid is always thinking.
ANSWER
March 15, 2008
Okay so I kind of lost track of the hint-a-day thing I was going to do. So without further ado:
At our house we have
Lauren “crackers” (sorry once again having problems with the picture not wanting to show up right)
And we have
Samantha crackers,
and apparently we have
fire crackers.
You see lately Lauren is in to hinting at what she wants. For example in the morning if she is hungry and you ask her what she wants for breakfast, she’ll often say “I don’t want breakfast, I want something little or big” (translation: I don’t want real food, I want a snack). Or if it’s snack time and you ask what she wants, she might say “something flat and round” (translation: one of mama’s sermon-worthy peanut butter chocolate chip cookies) So the day she requested a “firecracker” I kept making suggestions hoping I might figure out what it was that she was hinting at until finally she said “um maybe something you eat outside” ah ha! a firecracker (translation: the kind of crackers we have when we make smores at the campfire) I was laughing so hard it took me a minute before I could explain to Brandon what I had deciphered.
Here’s a hint

Some very creative guesses on the food item test however, no one had the correct answer so here is the first hint: Lauren was the one who requested the “firecracker”.
My Joshua’s Birthday
March 9, 2008
Today is my Joshua’s birthday. He would have been one year old. I miss him.
I made this cake for each of the kids on their first birthday and so it felt right to make one for him too, however it didn’t feel right to have it at his party because he wouldn’t be there to stick his fingers in it, so instead we brought it up to the nurses at the hospital where he was born. They thought it was very sweet.
It was kind of funny because while I was making it the girls started talking about eating it so I was explaining that there would be a little left over so they could still have a piece of cake on his birthday, because “who would blow out the candles?” if we had it at his party? I believe it was Sam who suggested that we could all blow out the candles together, then Erica came up with putting a fan really close to the cake to blow it out. The conversation moved on to poor Joshua because he couldn’t eat his birthday cake because he is in heaven. Then came, Ya but I bet God has a cake for him in heaven. Right about then was when I explained that we were going to take this cake up to the nurses. To which Lauren said “Oh, can they fly?” Too cute.
Saturday we took the girls to the floral shop so they could each pick out a flower to bring up to the cemetery (note to self, pick a cheaper location next year). It was so cold I could barely get them to pose for a quick picture. Then we were off to drop them off to Uncle Darrell and Auntie Lindsey so Brandon and I could have some time alone.
Brandon and I went and had supper at the hospital cafeteria and then headed up to the ninth floor to bring the cake to the nurses and drop off some stamping stuff for the nurses to make hand prints for anyone else who is in a similar situation. We also brought along the scrapbook we have been working on in hopes of spending a little time reminiscing in “his” room. The room was being used but the nurses all thought it was so sweet that we had brought the cake and stamping stuff and some of them asked to see his album which of course I gladly shared. We ended up just spending some time in a different room, it wasn’t quite the same but it felt good.
Today we had the family over for a pot luck and just spent some time playing games.
I know that he is having a great time in heaven -though I have no idea what he is doing. I love him dearly and I miss him, but I know that I will see him in heaven and we will get to spend eternity together.
The other day when we were talking, Brandon and I were discussing how we both felt that Joshua died in the final stages of his birth and Brandon shared with me a mental image he had of Joshua’s birth …that while we delivered Joshua’s body safely into our doctor’s hands, his spirit was delivered into the hands of Jesus. That is such a beautiful image for me.
One of the cards we got today had this verse:
Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1Thessalonians 4:17 NKJV
I thought that was especially beautiful too.
Thanks to all those who were praying for us today and this whole week. I can tell you that more than once, I felt a strength that was not my own.
This is a Test
March 8, 2008
Okay y’all, this is a test. I am looking for someone who can tell me what food item a “firecracker” is. There is a correct answer and I will give hints each day as necessary until someone comes up with it.
Cell Phones and the Bible
March 7, 2008
A friend of mine sent this in an e-mail, I thought it was worth posting:
CELL PHONE vs. BIBLE
I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cellphone?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of an emergency?
This is something to make you go… Hmm… Where is my Bible?
Oh, and one more thing. ..
Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected
because Jesus already paid the bill.
Makes you stop and think ‘where are my priorities?
And no dropped calls!
