Dear Friends

May 29, 2008

Dear friends,

I would like to request prayers again for my friend Kristina’s little boy Samuel.  He had another surgery recently in an attemp to help him process food (everything he eats goes right through him and the meds they give him to try to help are damaging his liver).  This was basically the last surgical option left and the doctors have said now it’s sort of up to Sam.  They have said that if this does not work, his digestive system may be “incompatable with life”.  Today Kristina found out about a new med that might help but it is still in clinical trials so they are hoping to get him approved.  Here is the link for her care page if you would like to read the recent updates:

Cute conversation

May 26, 2008

Lauren wanted grapes the other morning so Brandon started getting them ready.

Lauren says, “make sure you clean them daddy.”

“Yes Lauren, I’m washing them right now”

Daddy gives the bowl of grapes to Lauren.  Lauren says, “Daddy these grapes are not cwean.”

“yes they are”

“no they not, dere filwfy”

The StorkApparently Erica is getting better at it -sort of.  Last Saturday morning we called her upstairs to do her meds and see if she could keep a secret.  Halfway through her meds I whispered, “Erica … can you keep a secret?”  she looked at me with big eyes and silently nodded her head yes.  So I whispered in her ear, “we’re going to have another baby.”  -she bolted out of the room.  We called her back to finish her meds and when she was done she headed downstairs.  We were still in her room putting her meds away when we hear “SAM, GUESS WHAT, MOM’S HAVIN’ A BABY!”  …so much for keeping a secret.

That was actually our original intent in the first place.  Knowing how Erica loves to know a good secret and can hardly bear to keep it in, we figured we would tell her first and see how long it took for word to get out.  Saturday night we had a graduation party for Porfidio which a good portion of our family was at, including the crew from upnorth.  I thought surely she would spill it at least to her cousins but she had fallen asleep in the car and woke up in a foul mood.  I don’t know if she just forgot about her juicy tid bit or was too busy playing to say anything (when we brought it up later Sam said  -I reminded her not to mom) but not a word was said.

Sunday morning she whispered it to her children’s worship leader -a family friend (who was unsure if she was supposed to know about it and whether it was accurate) so she checked with us after church.   We told her we are expecting.  We also decided mother’s day was a great opportunity to tell Nana (who is visiting from Mississippi) so we wrapped up “the stork” (see above) and gave it to her for her gift.  Several of Brandon’s aunts and uncles were there, when she pulled it out and was all excited some of them thought maybe it was a rare collectable or something and wondered if she had a stork collection.  I said nope only one.  (Brandon’s brother and SIL had our oldest niece give Nana the stork when they were expecting their second child and it has been tradition ever since to steal the stork from Nana’s curio cabinet and surprise them when announcing each of the grandchildren)  We also went to Brandon’s Opa and Oma’s for a Mother’s day visit so we told them as well.  At first Oma was a little confused because we had just been talking about my little brother’s new baby and she missed part of the transition.  We also stopped at my folks since Erica hadn’t managed to spill the beans (or “pop the bubble” as she put it) on Saturday and suprised them with a “mother’s day story” that Erica wanted to tell them.  I was also able to get ahold of all my siblings and share the news.

On monday Zach outed us at track practice.  He comes up and with a big grin says “oh ya, congratulations” which of course made the other throwers wonder what he was congratulating us about so he nigh unto shouts “they’re having a baby”! …That was fun =)

Early this week Brandon put it on facebook so I figured I better get it up on my blog before the whole world knows and I haven’t had anything to do with it.  SO …We are expecting our next baby in early January, sometime around January 9.  I probably won’t put up a ticker until we get the official due date from our new Dr. (topic for a whole different post) which won’t be until early June.  So we have a looonnnnggg way to go.  But, I have a girlfriend who has experienced several miscarriages and someone once asked her why she didn’t wait until she was farther along to tell people she was expecting.  She said “are you kidding, My babies need all the prayers they can get”.

So far I am feeling pretty good aside from being a little extra tired, hopefully that will be the extent of it.

I’m hooked

May 8, 2008

I have been coaching track and field (okay shot and discus so I guess that’s just field) this year with Brandon.  Brandon has coached for the last 8 years.  Last year after Joshua was born I went with him to a few meets at the end of the season just to get out of the house and spend some time together.  He started asking me already then if I would coach track with him because I was enjoying it so much (we both threw shot and disc in highschool). I finally agreed to give it a try this spring.  The plan was I would come to practice like 3 days a week.  Well that didn’t work.  After the first week I was hooked,  I would go to practice 4 days a week until our Wednesday night program at church ended, then I went all five days.  It has been so much fun.  I definitely hope to do it again next year.

My brother just called …My new nephew Jonathan Alan Heuker was born about 11:15 this morning. (so yah about 5 min before my other post) We don’t know how big he is yet because they are observing him in the nursery because he was a little greyish at first.  My brother said he is doing fine they just want to keep an eye on him for a little while.
