Hello baby =)
June 30, 2008
So “we” had our first ultrasound today. We being me and the baby I guess. Normally we is Brandon and I however his being in Guatemala kind of made that difficult. The only consolation is that he didn’t miss much. I haven’t had a first trimester ultrasound since I was pregnant with Sam and they were trying to figure out what was going on (they thought I was going to miscarry). This one was much quicker thatn I remember that one being. They checked out it’s length -right on target, and it’s heart rate -right in the target range, and said it’s abdominal wall was just how it is supposed to be -Yeh! no LBWC for this baby! I did get a surprise phone call from Brandon. When he told Dan that he wouldn’t get to hear the results, Dan told him oh yes you will, you’ll use my cell phone. So I got a wonderful call from my dear husband in the mountains of Guatemala -amazing I told Brandon it looks a little like an alien … see for yourself.
Apparently I lost a little weight since my last appointment (not uncommon in the beginning for me)-though I don’t know how that’s possible because I feel like I’m eating all the time. But my doctor told me I better gain some weight by the next time I see him, since it’s not for 4 weeks I think I’ll be able to manage that. I get another more in depth ultrasound in eight weeks, Brandon should be able to make that one.=) Last night as Lauren and I were looking online for info about first trimester ultrasounds (we had both had a late afternoon nap) she layed her arm across my belly and said, “I hope this one can stay” and then she said, “I hope it beez a boy” I said oh ya why? she said “cuz I like daddy” apparently she figures a boy would be just like daddy. Too cute.
What’s up with that?

I don’t know if my blog looks odd to you or if it’s just how it’s coming back to me but something is strange at the Sloterbeek Scoop.
What a week!
June 27, 2008
Wow this week has really flown by! It started Sunday with leaving right after Brandon got done with a comissioning service at church to go up north for my Grandparent’s 60th anniversary celebration. We stayed overnight at my SIL’s family cottage and had a great time hanging out with my sister and her family who were here from Colorado. Then it was head home late Monday night so we could be home Tuesday so Brandon could pack for his Guatemala trip early Wednesday morning. We had said our goodbye’s Tuesday night because it would be so early in the morning, of course I woke up before he left to say goodbye one more time. He walked to church so I wouldn’t have to get up and drive him (I don’t do so well with quick starts right now -kind of make me queezy) I bet he was quite a site walking down the road with his carry on suitcase and backpack, probably looked like a little kid running away from home. Wednesday my sisters and I took the kids and their daddy’s to Michigan’s Adventure. They all had a great time though we did discover that Erica is very afraid of heights and Lauren is quite the adrenaline junky. Sam braved the Shivering Timbers roller coaster and lived to tell about it although she and uncle Mark agreed that it made them sick to thier stomaches. Yesterday we hung out at Grandma’s playing with the cousins one last time before they left today. Today we just layed low and hung out around the house. Here is a slide show of the kids at Michigan’s Adventure. Note that Erica is not in the second picture of the Frog Hopper -she was screeming bloody murder so they let her off. >
My appologies to my little nephew Jacob, I just realized it seems like I’m implying he’s a martian. I almost forgot my favorite quote about the trip. When we were explaining to Erica that she might not be able to go on all the rides because she would be too small for some of them she actually took it pretty well and said something to the effect of: “ya, that’s so the thrill matches your size.” she had Brandon and I in stitches. My little peanut is 10!
June 11, 2008
I can’t believe my little peanut is 10 years old …double digits …a tween! She was such a tiny little muffin when she was born. Just 6 lbs, 7 1/2 oz. She was so little it made me nervous to hold her. Now she’s a great big kid, a kid, when did that happen? Last night we went out for her birthday dinner, she chose Logans (I’m glad we went a day early, they have $2 kids meals on Monday and Tuesdays). After dinner we went to check out soccer goals at MC Sports just to compare to what we had been finding online. As it turned out, they were having a sale and we found one that was a really good deal and functions as both a goal and a rebounder. We also got her a new soccer ball that is the right size for her age (who knew there were different sizes?). This morning her daddy got up a bit early and made her a special breakfast and tonight for supper we are having spaghetti (no mushrooms) w/ garlic bread for supper per request of the birthday girl. The final birthday event will be a sleepover this weekend to which all of the girls in her class have been invited.
Kindergarten Celebration!
June 9, 2008
Last Friday Erica “graduated” kindergarten. I like that our school calls it celebration instead of graduation because in some circumstances a child might not advance to 1st grade. Erica did a great job in all of the things she was a part of. I promised my mom-in-law I would post pictures so here is a slide show for you:
For the twelve days of Winter, Erica’s line was “he threw a snowball”
Good news for Samuel !
June 7, 2008
Hey everybody, I have an update on my friends little guy. While Kristina was researching, Samuels doctor (unbeknownst to them) was meeting with the doctors who are conducting the study to try to get approved so that Sam could participate in the study. He was approved as was Samuel but the hospital still has to approve participating. They do not meet until June 23/24 to decide on whether or not they as a hospital will participate in the study. If approved, they should be able to start him on it within a day or two.
